Please add formal support for "Storage Groups" on SVC/V7K

There is currently no formal functionality to create a 'storage group' (or container) on SVC/V7K platforms as of version 6.4.

Users are forced to either create many multiple individual host-to-lun masks OR create 'arbitrary' storage groups by labeling the host mapping entry with a common name and adding multiple initiators to the masking record.

Additionally , the initial initiator limit appears to be ~25 per host (although this limit can be circumvented by exiting the GUI and then returning to add additional initiators at a later time).

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Tivoli
    Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize

This request is well understood. As an interim solution, we highly recommend you read this solution for "Host Groups" described in Q2 on this page: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/IBM%20SmartCloud%20Virtual%20Storage%20Center/page/Ask%20HOW

We intend to satisfy this other request also as part of the functionality delivered herein: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/execute?use_case=viewRfe&CR_ID=40448  Therefore it's been closed as a duplicate of this RFE.

SUMMARY: functionality to define a "Cluster" on SVC (original RFE referred to this as a "Storage Group"). This is needed to support our larger VMware clusters and some of our Linux clusters. In addition to what is being requested in 26871, we need the ability to allow for some non-shared vDisks to be mapped to individual hosts that belong to this same cluster.  For us, these are typically going to be for our Linux hosts.
USE CASE: We have Linux clusters that have a large number of shared vDisks.  The servers also need to have some non-shared vDisks mapped to them.  We are often asked to add more capacity (vDisks) to the cluster as a whole.

Host Groups for multiple vdisk mappings

Implementation of Host Groups like on XIV and other Storagesolutions, to map vdisks to the same Host Objects in one step. Grouping of defined Hosts to a Cluster with identical vdisk Mappings.

Need "Storage Group" functionality for shared vDisks, as well as support for non-shared vDisks.

We would like functionality to define a "Cluster" on SVC, similar to RFE 26871. (original RFE referred to this as a "Storage Group") This is needed to support our larger VMware clusters and some of our Linux clusters. In addition to what is being ...

Host Groups used for mapping vdisks

Merged
Thus, the mapping of vdisks to ESX hosts would be easier, if the mapping could be done on a hostgroup similar to the DS3xxx storage systems. The current solution of one host with all FC ports off the ESX hosts is too confusing.

Why doesn't SVC have host groups?

Merged
SVC needs to incorporate the use of host groups. This is the only IBM storage product that doesn't use hosts groups.
