Originally the plan was to have the Spectrum Virtualize system provide an alert if it did not see a backup created within the time frame of the policy associated to the volume group. However, Spectrum Virtualize will be moving away from these policies and thus will not be implementing that notification. The policy will instead reside completely on the CSM side when using CSM. So we'll look into how we might be able to provide a notification in the event that a backup failed to get created.

With that said, this particular case you're referring to was a unique situation that we still do not understand, where a single volume that should have been in the volume group at the time of the backup creation, didn't get a backup created and didn't produce an error. It is still unknown how that situation would have occurred so will need to think of whether there's something we can do to also check "after" the backup has been issued...without confusing it with actual volume group changes that may occur.
