This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.

I am writing to submit a request for enhancement to the Copy Services Manager (CSM) software. We believe that the addition of COPYONCE functionality, similar to that within GDPS, to CSM would greatly simplify the management of Copysets. Specifically, we propose the inclusion of an additional field that indicates that a specific volume is not required to be consistent in the remote location. Instead, only the volume structure needs to have an initial copy created and then suspended.
Our organization has identified several use cases where this functionality would be highly beneficial. Specifically, we encounter the need for COPYONCE functionality when dealing with system temporary dataset volumes (such as SORTWK) and page dataset volumes. Currently, we are required to create a Metro Mirror session within CSM, initiate a Global Copy, and terminate the session once the copy reaches 100% completion. This process is cumbersome and time-consuming, and could result in missing remote copies if not managed correctly
By incorporating COPYONCE functionality into CSM, we would be able to streamline our operations and simplify the management of Copysets. This enhancement would allow us to create an initial copy of the volume structure and then suspend further copying, eliminating the need for additional steps and reducing the complexity of our workflows.
We believe that this enhancement would greatly benefit not only our organization but also other CSM users who encounter similar use cases. We kindly request your consideration and evaluation of this enhancement request.
