FlashSystem intelligent QoS

Although FlashSystem / Spectrum Virtualize have the capability of do throttling of IOPS and MBps to a specific LUN or Pool, I have more than one customer that would like to have the capability of specify SLO, for example, implement QoS with different tiers:

Ultra represent the most aggressive response time (> 0.5ms)

Gold represent the best response time (> 1 ms)

Silver represent an intermediate response time (> 2ms)

Bronze represent the slow response time (> 3 ms)

This is just examples and the tiers and response time objectives could be different or even customized by the customer with few support (and warning messages, as well).

Please, can be possible to evaluate this possibility?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Philip,

Yes, Sidney submitted this RFE because a MSP that we were working on, few years ago. I didn't remember this RFE/idea.

Although it is almost the same requisition, the MSP is other and the requirement is to create a kind of tiers were we can adjust the goals, according tiers.

Maybe other GEOs are not complaining about that because they are working only with SSDs/NVMe Disks, but here, we do have customer working with NLSAS tier, for example. Other aspect, for private cloud, customer can slow down the response time and monetize with different tiers, even with a AFA solution.

To do that only with throttling capability, will not work as expected by customer, since we do have the options of IOPS and MBps, but, if a tenant have different kind of workloads, the outcome may vary since throughput=IOPS * Block size / 1024.

Let me know if you need any additional information. Many thanks.

Thank you for submitting this Idea. We are currently evaluating your request.

Sidney previously submitted request https://ibm-sys-storage.ideas.ibm.com/ideas/SCSI-I-906 to define QoS throttles by defining a goal response time, in other words to slow down I/Os in the the lower tiers.

Is this the same as your request? It seems that this requirement is relatively unique to MSPs in Brazil. We will take a look at it.

    Thanks,
    SpecV Team
