When using Spectrum Virtualize in conjunction with IBM Spectrum Copy Data Management, if the flashcopy bitmap capacity fills, the Spectrum Virtualize instance will warmstart a node without warning. Spectrum Copy Data Management orchestrates the scheduling and taking of hardware Flashcopies but has no insight as to whether or not the underlying storage system can fulfill the request.

The necessity of implementing such safety net mechanism is even more important in the environment IBM positions for DEVOPS where application administrators, DBAs, developers may be provided with access to initiate Flashcopy tasks through CDM GUI. Since the GUI abstracts underlying SVC copy services - they may not even be aware of FlashCopy limitations, let alone bitmap existence...
