This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

The vdisk mirror function is great, but there are a couple of scenarios where two mirrored copies are actually not enough for many customers. Typically this is when customers mandate that there are ALWAYS two copies of a volume.
The function does not need to be enable running with 3 copies in production. It would be sufficient to add a 3rd copy and telling SVC which existing copy to remove once the 3rd copy is in sync.

A 3rd vdisk copy is only required in stretch cluster architecture, where vdisk mirroring is used for HA.
With policy-based HA, vdisk copy can already be used for migration/conversion requirements.
we neeeeeeeed this function it will save lots of time with migrations!!!.
so when it will be available? :)
There's definitely a high potential in this idea. Actually ANY stretched cluster would benefit from such a temporary 3rd copy during any kind of data migration while upholding full redundancy.
Another use case would be, again in stretched environments where there's always 2 copies of all vdisks, to be able to shrink thin volumes (SEVs) where unmapped space has accumulated with the help of such a 3rd copy.
And hey, we've got to do something useful with the bumped up bitmap space of 20 gigs for SV3s running 8.6+! :-)
