Add additional member to an existing V7000 array

The current Storawize V7000 code allows only to swap an array member with another drive. In an environment of increasing storage capacity, it would be desirable to extend an existing array by adding an additional drive (or multiple drives) to it and to keep

This functionality is critical for us, I could not believe my eyes when support informed me that you cannot expand an existing DRAID6 by simply adding one more SSD to it. If I knew this limitation I would have reconsidered my V7000 GEN3 purchase. I mean come on even my 5 year old Dell Compellent build using commodity hardware can do this! IBM devs?!

Its about time this feature request is implemented. Please.

I taught this was a joke, but understand now it's true. It will be very hard to manage my currently 10 drive system with vvol's etc over time without being able to expand the mdisk.

My eyes lying to me or, IBM can't implement this feature for 5 years already?

I can't believe other features are getting and have been added to StorWise before the ability to expand an mdisk!!!
I guess IBM are struggling with it technically? Maybe they need to hire some software engineers from EonStor, Dell, HP, NetApp.

I guess IBM just don't understand the real impact this has. For larger enterprise customers who buy lots of storage and have large SANs and large budgets, less of an issue.

For smaller customers with a single tray SAN with 24 disk bays and no where near full to begin with, this is a huge issue.

Come on IBM, we're not all huge customers with massive budgets.

I see this feature was announced publicly by IBM and road mapped in 2015 for V7.6
“Ability to expand an array/MDisk is a 2016 roadmap item”

    Quite a ridiculous restriction.

Small number of SSDs (3.84TB per SSD), configures as DRAID6. Now we want to add one SSD (3.84 TB) and must use 3 SSDs, configured RAID1+HotSpare, to meet the Goal. Too expensive!!!
With DRAID it is necessary to have this function!

This feature becomes even more relevant in times of DRAID.

    Dear IBM, what has happened?
Exactly the same situation here: we have 12-bay expansion with 9 disks. Our storage demand grows. We purchase 3 new disks from you (costly) and we find out that we can only configure them as an additional RAID 1 or 10(sic!) thus losing 2/3 from the additionally bought capacity. The CEO looks at me if I am an [Deleted].

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Storage
    Product - IBM Storwize V7000, V5000 and V3000

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Tivoli
    Product family - Storage
    Product - IBM Storwize V7000, V5000 and V3000

Expanding a mdisk would be great with all the Storewize systems (3700 5000).

I operate a very small site - with limited budget and we've got about 96% usage on a pool/mdisk - I'd like to add 1 to 3 drives to this in the RAID6 array - now it's going to be a weekend task as I copy 4TB of files OFF of the V3700, so I can recreate all of the mdisk with the new disks, then copy the 4TB BACK to the V3700 and reconfigure all of the volumes.

Yikes. A massive, time consuming task that will result in hours (if not days) of downtime.

Last Year in Las Vegas at EDGE 2014.
I've made this same request to the developer panel that were present in the last storage session.

It seems that this "feature" needs substantial effort and its very low priority, which means that we're not going to see it soon.

I hope I'm wrong and someone does reply that its going to be announced this june.

I've sold v3700 to several my customers believing adding disks to an array would be no-brainer. Seems it not. I really really really need this on V3700 also.
