IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Increase bitmap limit for features in Storwize/Spectrum Virtualize

Particularly in the Storwize family of products, the current ~512MiB of bitmap space is insufficient given the size of storage systems. Even a "small" V7000 system, for instance, may have several PiBs of disk. The default settings perform a volume format, which uses mirroring bitmap space during the format. Performing an initial bringup when it may be desired to present the full capacity of the system at once, such as behind an SVC, the amount of memory available requires creating volumes in chunks, even when making all available bitmap space available to mirroring. This can significantly increase deployment time.

Please add GEICO to the list of clients requiring this enhancement. Contact me (tmkane@us.ibm.com) for details

This is even more serious after the latest launch of the new 38.4TB FCM 2.0, when a FS9200 is filled up and configured on Hyperswap, its only possible to mirror around 850TB of space, because of bitmap space.
So extend the bitmap, please !!!

This is also true for stretched clusters. The current bitmap space for volume mirroring only allows 2PB of volume copies per IO Group which is far too low for current storage sizes. Please increase.
