Spectrum Scale and Flashcopy integration to migrate data (files) from one cluster to another cluster.

Dear,

We have a customer who need to copy files from the production environment to the developement environment to offer to the developers the possibility to work with real datas.

It is possible to used Flashcopied LVM volumes from one simple server to another simple server, with some actions needed.

It is an ordinary action used by many customers to "refresh" the datas in a development's environment, with the datas from a production's environment.

I am surprised that there is no procedure to do the same from one Spectrum Scale cluster to another.

A flashcopied volume from a production's Spectrum Scale cluster should be importable to a development's cluster Spectrum Scale cluster. Where this flashcopied volume (only accessible by the DEV) is a point-in-time copy the PROD volume.

I am sure it is possible. But No procedure exists.

Could you add this feature or create the procedure to do that ?

Best regards,
Rudy

    Hello,

The customer has not kept your solution to synchronize the data from one Spectrum Scale cluster to another Spectrum Scale cluster.

At the end we tried an home made procedure to to that.
This procedure has been built from the Spectrum Scale DRP procedure from IBM.

It worked for us . I don't know if it is usable in all scenario.
Our source cluster and our targeted cluster are very similar. They are at the exactly same version, they have the same number of NSD disks, these disks have the same size and the device/filesets definition are the same.

Obviously in every scenario of refresh from production to development way you have to adapt the data before they become usable by the development infrastructure: Config files, DB content, etc.

    Regards,
    Rudy

Could IBM Spectrum Copy Data Management (https://www.ibm.com/products/spectrum-copy-data-management) address this need?
