Restore Storage Pool does note generate a list of tapes required and in the order needed.

The customer lost the primary storage pool due to a hardware failure. During the Restore Storage Pool process, they were prompted for tape volumes one at a time. This was a very time consuming process. If a list could be generated of the tapes needed in the order needed, even if it was the next 5 or 10 tapes, this would make the restore a much more efficient process.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Storage
Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Tivoli
    Product family - Storage
Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family

Another recommendation from the IBM development team is to use the RESTORE STGPOOL command with PREVIEW=YES. This is like the best approach though it might not be the solution requested. As mentioned previously, there are no plans to implement the requested function in the next release or two. However, if you would like to have this requirement be reconsidered after the delivery of the next TSM release, please feel free to resubmit your request.

For clarification, there are various volume and storage pool queries that could be issued that can help provide the requested information for storage pool restoration. You could query the volumes for the copy pool to which the primary pool was backed up to determine the tapes likely to be required. There are no plans to implement the requested function in the next release or two. If, after our next release of TSM, you would like this requirement to be re-considered, please resubmit the RFE. Thank you for your commitment to TSM and for your support in moving the product forward.
