TSM 6 space reclamations very slow

Space reclamation of a normal (non-dedupe) storage pool from a deduplicated storage pool is very slow. In our environment we have onsite deduplicated pools and offsite copies that are made daily and taken off site. The impact is that only tapes with a reclamation threshold of around 95% can be reclaimed in a 6 hour window. The number of tapes needed for the offsite copies have doubled due to this. This is a small site with only 3-4 tapes going off site daily. For larger sites this could be disastrous.
In our case it was found that there were no performance problems with the TSM installation and that everything worked as designed.
A PMR have been logged and investigated and it was suggested by IBM to log a RFE. See PMR: 45807,363,864 - TSM DB2 re-org not running.

    This PMR was reopened and closed, again with the same outcome. No performance or configuration problems were found.
    In their own words "it is working as designed".
    In my opinion "It's not a very good design then"

    Thank you for submitting this enhancement request, please reopen the PMR (if it was closed), this enhancement request does not contain enough information to justify an enhancement request, this might well be a configuration issue or a defect that should be resolved through other means, TSM has a very robust reclamation process that should be able to comply with your requirements.
