IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Replication data communication encryption in transit using TLS

Encryption of data at flight:

Currently our spectrum Virtualize software is able to do a encryption of data at rest. This capability means that data is encrypted as it is written to disks by the IBM Spectrum Virtualize Controllers, and not by disk themselves. However Replication and host to storage communication is not encrypted.

With increased security requirements for organizations data, an encryption of data at flight ( over the wire) is also critical in order to keep the data always secure and encrypted.

In scenarios such as replication, this has become a very critical functionality for users as they dont want to compromise with data not only when it is stored in storage controllers, but also when it is transmitted from one site to another or when doing a host to storage communication.

The encryption feature will be between the two replicated datasets( or three , depending upon architecture and business requirement) by using encryption communication standard such as
TLS 1.2 on AES-256 on Global Mirror, Hyperswap, Strech cluster, 3-Site etc. by using PSK) between two clusters.

Encrypted IP replication using IPsec was introduced in 3Q22 (8.5.2).
