IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

QoS Settings Should be per Pool, not per Node

Currently QoS Settings for Pools are per Node, not per Cluster. QoS settings should exist per pool per Cluster instead. This will prevent excess effort in management and maintenance in storage environments.

Need to be able to report IO Density in GUI for QoS Settings Montioring

Currently you cannot see the reports for the performance of volumes with QoS settings in the GUI. There is no indication of how closely the volumes are vs. the QoS settings nor their peaks.

Throttling at Pool Level Should Apply to All Volumes in Pool

The Bandwidth or IOPs settings should apply to all volumes in a pool instead of the pools themselves and be across whole clusters. This will save considerable operational effort and tooling development time.

SCDM notify on failure only

SCDM should have an option to send notification emails on job failures only instead of for every result. I don't really need an email for a successful job.

Skip recall when files are open()ed with O_TRUNC

Adding this feature it would prevent many unnecessary recalls. As recalls from tape are an expensive operation it would improve the performance of the filesystem.

Spectrum Protect should support Linux GFS2 filesystem

GFS2 is the standard filesystem used by Red Hat clusters for concurrent storage. It's in the same class of filesystem storage as GPFS (Spectrum Scale)

Ability to run initckdvol as it is often needed during DASD refresh

During DASD refreshes, we perform multiple times full data push to the new frames so that the application teams can do as much testing on the new frames. And IBM recommends us to run initckdvol before we do a new full push to the new frame since t...
