This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Thank your for your request regarding reporting optimization status on LTO9 media. We know that being able to tell whether or not media is optimized allows you to know when this task is required. Unfortunately, the optimization status is not known until the media is first mounted in a drive. A way you can tell if a cartridge may need optimization, is whether it has been mounted yet. If a cartridge has been mounted, it will not need optimization. If it has not yet been mounted, it may need optimization but this cannot be predicted.
“Can you clarify this request? It seems like like a catch-22 in that the only way the library can determine the pre-calibration status is via the drive when the cartridge is mounted. And once the cartridge is mounted, by definition, the cartridge will then be calibrated. Is the request to indicate the most recent mount of the cartridge?”
