This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family
The issue is not with the overhead of the load of the TOC.
Also, the suggestion of Q TOC and scripting restore with filelist is moot; DAR is currently **ONLY** available in the TSM Client Web GUI interface. This interface requires user intervention and can not be scripted. Even the Client Command Line RESTORE NAS command does not use DAR - scripting is not an option.
If the pain point to be solved is to make TOC load times for NDMP web client restores more efficient, the recommendation for improving that would be to keep the TOCs in disk or file pools. Also repeated restore operations from the same backup won't need to reload the TOC based on the TOCLOADRETENTION server option. At this time we will not be implementing a solution to this request in the next year or two. One way to work around this might be to script something which outputs the information from a QUERY TOC F=D for a DAR restore, search for the files in the TOC output and collect the information needed by NDMP DAR, then run the RESTORE NODE....FILELIST=FILE:name command where "name" would contain the information needed for DAR.
If you would like us to reconsider this request after the next release of our product, please resubmit the RFE.
Thank you for submitting this request. We are still discussing this item with our product teams and will provide an update after such discussions have completed.
