This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.
Welcome to the IBM Ideas Portal (https://www.ibm.com/ideas) - Use this site to find out additional information and details about the IBM Ideas process and statuses.
IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com) - Use this site to view all of your ideas, create new ideas for any IBM product, or search for ideas across all of IBM.

IBM has evaluated the request, and has determined that it can not be implemented at this time or does not align with the current multi-year strategy. This request may be resubmitted for consideration after 18 months from the date of submission. The request submitter will automatically be notified by email when the request qualifies for reconsideration and resubmission.
db2 backups goes as backup objects, and it might be possible to update the node to reject deletion of backups (UPD N xx BACKDEL=NO).
DB2 will than inactivate the backups, instead of deleting the backups.
The statement that DB2 can only restore objects that are in active state is not true (at least in the past when we used it).
There is a hidden environment variable one can use, that enables the feature to also view inactive objects in DB2.
Ask IBM; they must know about this environment variable as I don't remember it anymore. Or contact me tomas.dalebjork@gmail.com so that I can help you locate this variable.
Another possible solution is to use SPFS.
SPFS is a filesystem for Spectrum Protect
It works like a generic interface (agentless), so that one can protect any solution, such as DB2, using Spectrum Protect.
It's easy, just mount spfs as either backup objects or archive
# mount -t spfs /backup
after mounting, it is easy to have a more easy to use interface to manage the backups
browsing existing backups
# ls /backup
Both active and inactive objects are viewable.
