This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Hi,
Currently, when an SPP customer would like to have a copy on tapes, he has 2 alternatives:
1. copy mode - to have additional storage space in the ISP server (as directory container) to allow incremental copies. that requires twice the capacity in terms of storage. so if the customer is 2PB (Vsnap aggregate capacity for a single site), then the customer will need to purchase 2 additional PB. that puts SPP out of the game in the customer's eyes when the competition starts with alternative products. that's killing the deal in terms of ROI immediately.
2. the second option is to use Archive, which can only run once a week, and takes full, undeduped copy of the VSNAP pool to tapes, that means the same customer with 2PB of data will need to allocate for each archive operation hundreds of tapes, insert them to the library an so on every week. comparing to the alternative competition which allows taking a single version point in time copy to tape (instead of the entire pool). that is also a deal killer in terms of trying to get into new customers.
