This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

I'd like to that this a little further - what about a maintenance mode for a backend storage system (e.g. during FW update on that box). Even if the backend storage is per se redundanent we always get a bunch of error messages in the SVC event log. Planned maintenance will stop IOs to the (mirrored copy) data on that backend
Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize
For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
Brand - Tivoli
Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize
Vdisk mirror is a great function, but from the perspective of someone who runs a shop that uses vdisk mirror a function is missing to suspend the and resume the mirror. If you don't do that and let SVC figure out that a copy if not available for a vdisk, it can impact the performance of the environment, because ther may be thousands of vdisks that have a mirror within the same mdisk group. Since we already have several issues where SVC pauses I/Os altogether, the customer would like to be able to prepare for maintenance and but this put the mirror into a pause/suspend state, and later resume, just as you can do with global mirror and metro mirror.
In addition that would solve the problem of sending thousands of alerts, because a vdisk copy has gone offline. This should be flagged only as information if the mirror was put into this suspend state, but a error in any other situation.
