This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.

Increases Visibility of VM traffic: VM-ID tags can be used by the Hypervisor and FC switches to understand the data flowing across
its environment to better monitor outages or determining heavier traffic at different points along the path to help mitigate these
situations

VMID+ is only available for certain blades and switches.Otherwise, the storage itself must support that functionality to get that information out.
Can you provide more information about what benefit you are looking for by enabling VMID?
Brocade switches support a feature called VMID+ (https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/fibre-channel-networking/fabric-os/fabric-os-admini[…]h-VM-Insight-Capability/Flow-Monitoring-with-VMID-91x.html) and VMID+ can be enabled by the switch without the storage controller having to be VMID aware.
Enabling VMID on FlashSystem will not provide any additional information than VMID+ on Brocade switch.
Storage Insights also collects VMware statistics via data collector, which is another useful tool for end-to-end troubleshooting.
Thank you for submitting this Idea. We are currently evaluating your request.
Thanks,
FlashSystem Team
