Adding a second NTP server introduces complexity and risk, including conflicting time sources that can cause clock drift or oscillation, which could lead to instability across the grid (e.g., time jumps or reboot loops). It also creates dependency on correct customer configuration, increasing the likelihood of misconfiguration issues that are difficult to diagnose and support.
Given TS7700’s reliance on internal clock stability and historically low functional dependency on NTP, a single NTP server with internal clock fallback is sufficient, making the perceived redundancy of a second server unjustified relative to the added risk, implementation effort, and support overhead.
