Enhanced Security and Usability for Trace Files

We would like to propose the following two enhancements for trace files generated by IBM Storage Protect.

1. Option to Exclude File Names from Trace Files

The names of files being backed up may contain information from which confidential or privacy-related information could potentially be inferred.

To prevent such information from being disclosed outside the organization, we request an option to exclude the names of backed-up and restored files from trace files when traces are collected.

2. Automatic Trace File Splitting

Although this is generally not an issue when traces are collected for a short period, there are cases where trace collection needs to continue for an extended period while waiting for an issue to recur.

In addition, it may be difficult to detect the occurrence of an issue in a timely manner and stop trace collection immediately.

As a result, trace files can become extremely large when trace collection continues for a long period.

To allow trace collection to continue for an extended period while enabling customers to send IBM only the relatively small trace files covering the time period in which the issue occurred, we request a feature that automatically splits and saves trace files at user-specified time intervals.
