setup gMSA account on the below TSM SP server

TS023147215 - Need help on setup gMSA account on the below TSM Server ,

Due to recent policy update on our Windows TSM server, after policy applied our backups are started backups are failing due to this,

gMSA - Credential Manager - 2.3.10.4 (L2) Ensure 'Network access: Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication' is set to 'Enabled'

Please find Update on the details :

Description

  • This policy setting determines whether Credential Manager (formerly called Stored User Names and Passwords)saves passwords or credentials for later use when it gains domain authentication.

The recommended state for this setting is: Enabled as per CIS

Impact

  • Credential Manager will not store passwords and credentials on the computer. Users will be forced to enter passwords whenever they log on other network resources that aren't accessible to their domain account.

Enabling this setting also makes it impossible to specify alternate credentials for scheduled tasks, this can cause a variety of problems.

This setting affects Scheduled tasks running with a domain account (ZID, EID or SVC accounts)

Users will not be able to modify the Scheduled tasks and execution of these tasks might fail

Remediation

  • In order to fix this issue, Microsoft has special type of accounts called Group Managed Service Accounts (gMSA)

A gMSA is a special type of Active Directory account where we do not need to manage the password. Specific machines are permissioned to run processes as a gMSA, and when a process starts up, the machine will request a dynamic password from the domain controllers (a part of our Active Directory infrastructure). With a gMSA, the password does not need to be stored anywhere, and since the domain controller gives a dynamic password, we get password rotation "for free". Therefore, gMSAs are, by default, compliant with Mastercard's password rotation policies, which is why they're the preferred way to manage extra permissions for Mastercard platform applications.
