This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

System: Spectrum Protect Server - all platforms
Actor: User needing new function
Description: Request to develop a new feature which can lock a retention set from being deleted prior to its set expiry day.
The feature can be termed as "Retention Lock" which can be developed/coded very similar to "Retention Hold" introduced in v8.1.9.
Example: Client A creates a retention set on every Saturday evening of the week by defining a retention rule with retention days=90 days. The data of this retention set, if linked to a retention lock' cannot be deleted by any spectrum protect admin before 90 days.
The key differentiation between the "lock" concept and "hold" is that the spectrum protect admin will neither have the option/command to delete the data using Spectrum protect CLI or Operation Center nor it will have the ability to "release retset" from the lock like they can do today with retention hold.
Important: Commands such as node decommission/vm and delete filespace, selective expiration must be restricted to delete locked retention set data. Audit of such retention set for data integrity check should be inherited and repair/remove Spectrum protect database pointer to the files/objects if they are damaged or not found.

This request may not be delivered within the release currently under development, but the theme is aligned with the current multi-year strategy. IBM may consider and evaluate any RFE Community feedback for this request through activities such as voting. IBM will update this request in the future.
That is correct, and so is the case with any immutable cloud storage at the moment. It is a one way road.
Example: Client A creates a retention set on every Saturday evening of the week by defining a retention rule with retention days=90 days. The data of this retention set, if linked to a retention lock' cannot be deleted by any spectrum protect admin before 90 days.
Hi
I have one concern here , if customer comes back and ask for Backup policy change and want to remove all old retention sets immediately to have the billing reduced , in this case we will not be in position to delete anything
Retention set is nice feature to add in spectrum protect . This will definitely protect the deletion of critical business data of the client cussed by human error or by any admin .
