IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

vdisk_protection_enabled in IBM i PowerHA environments

IBM i has many functions where LUNs are automatically unmapped or flashed on storage systems.
e.g. DB2 Mirror (when creating the initial flash), PowerHA (IASP) LUN switching, ...
These fully automated functions do not work properly when vdisk_protection_enabled is activated on spectrum virtualize systems.
In case of PowerHA LUN level switching IOs to these luns are stopped, IASP is varied off, luns are unmapped from host and mapped to another host and IASP is varied on at the second system. There is no time to wait for the vdisk protection time in order to be able to switch the lun. Everything is fully automated and as it is a HA solution there is no time to wait until "inactive counter" is reached before luns can be switched.
It is very similar in case of DB2 Mirror -> there is an independent ASP (IASP) for IFS which can be switched within seconds/sub-minute which also does not work with vdisk_protection enabled as the process has to wait until the IO timer times out.

Delivered in 8.3.1 - now allow vdisk protection to be enabled or disabled on a pool or child pool level so volumes can be exempt from the policing
