With increasingly strict compliance by Reserve Bank Of India [similar central bank in other countries], banks need to mandate that any storage media leaving their premise does not carry any data.
Therefore clients want to ensure data is erased completely with an evidence for regulatory requirements before returning a faulty / MeS / outdated disk to IBM support team.
In absence of any straight answer from within IBM product family, Sales is forced to bundle disk retention which makes the overall cost proposal bulky and less competitive at marketplace.
Idea is to augment controllers code in existing storage portfolios with capability to,
1. Erase disk in place (while still sitting on storage slot) and,
2. Certify disk erasure
3. Print artifacts [erasure algorithm, disk SN etc.]
With proposed storage code based solution, we can avoid disk retention, i.e.,
1. IBM Storage becomes much more price competitive
2. Would gain quick alignment to marketplace requirements, specially in financial market segment
3. Would help to increase IBM Storage market share
