Expansion of volumes with a FlashCopy mapping

Currently you have to stop and delete the FlashCopy mapping, if like to expand the volume capacity!

Today we run a cirtial process to replace a volume in the LVM / ZFS-Pool to expand capacity. After the process is finished, Easy-Tier must learn anew the hot extents....

On Windows we have to delete the FlashCopy mapping before we can expand the volume. Thereby we lose the possibility for a fast recovery!

The same situation is with Global-Mirror-Releationships....

We running CLones for QA and Dev from Production-Snapshot. Result: Until Refresh of all Clones at the same time (never) it's not possible to extend LUNs for Production. We have to set up additional LUNS for extending and do AIX LVM Migration after some time to reduce the number of disks.

The inability to expand volumes with FlashCopy mappings ALSO prohibits expanding volumes in Global Mirror w/Change Volumes (GMCV) relationships, since the Change Volumes use FlashCopy mappings.
This forces a complex, error-prone process of changing the relationship to regular Global Mirror (including first removing it from the Consistency Group), expanding the Source/Target volumes, expanding the Change Volumes, changing back from GM to GMCV, and adding back into the Consistency Group. This can be as many as 21 steps (if you include checking consistency and modifying FlashCopy Mapping clean rates).
