A new feature called 'Fast Format' in SVC Code 7.5 level

A new feature called 'Fast Format' has been introduced in the SVC 7.5 level of code. This sets the 'format' option of new volumes on by default.
During the time the volumes is formatting, the volume can still be
accessed by a host system.

But for a quick test, created a 100GB volume and it was predicting 13 hours for completion so for real volumes which are 2 TB or larger will probably say they are going to take weeks to complete.

There are two workarounds to 'fix' this issue.

a. When creating a volume, click the 'Advanced' button, and uncheck the
box that says 'Format Volume'.

or

b. Change the -sync rate on the volume from the default of 50 to 90.
This will increase the format rate from 2 MB/s to 64 MB/s.

You can work around this by using the -nofmtdisk command when creating volumes via the CLI. If I were creating 200 volumes that is what I would do as its very quick to throw a script together.

mkvdisk -name HRAPQ00401-RMAN -iogrp 0 -mdiskgrp mdg_cmlbldr02_2 -vtype striped -size 1100 -unit gb -nofmtdisk
