This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

i would like to propose the ability to subselsct the tier level a specific volume is participating in. when having 3 storage tier within one pool, clients would like to priorize some volume e.g. have some volume use flash and enterprise, but others just use enterprise and nearline. the work around is currently to migrate some volumes to a lower tier manually and then deactivate ET on these volumes.
I could imagine a selectable field in the volumes advanced properties, where you have check-boxes with the 3 tier levels.
This might also solve the issue of some customers, being unable to move an application upwards prior running monthly recurring tasks on data.

Hello,
I totally adhere to this idea. As a Lab Services Storage consultant, this limitation has conditionned a lot the way we design multi-tier storage pools.
Customers want to benefit from the EasyTier automatic extent relocation while still having the flexibility to pin a volume to a certain tier or multiple tiers to avoid for example consuming Flash storage capacity for less critical volumes or to ensure high-level of performance for workloads that are not suitable with EasyTier learning interval.
This has been implemented in DS8000 EasyTier long time ago, using dscli with ability to pin a volume to a specific tier or to exclude a tier for this volume.
The manual mechanisms are already present in SVC (mkvdisk -mdisk and migrateexts commands), only thing needed is to implement a component that will ensure an arbitrary distribution of the volume extents and that will afterwards rebalance extents within the same tier based on mdisks usage.
Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize
For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
Brand - Tivoli
Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize
