IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

FCM's IBMVSS needs to be able to specify various grain size's to SVC during the flash copy

The Flash Copy manager application passes in a 64KB grain size to the SVC on Flash Copies by default. We are currently at SVC code 7*. This uses considerably more bit-map memory than the 256KB grain size than in previous SVC code levels. IBMVSS ( IBM's FCM Volume Shadow copy product) can not at this time specify the 256KB grain size parameter for the SVC to use on the Flash Copies.
We are having bit-map memory problems in Novi on IO group 4 where two of our Exchange servers exist. Our current work-around is to keep 24 flash copies of each passive Exchange database instead of the normal retention of 30 Flash copies.
We are requesting an enhancement to the Flash Copy Manager application to specify the grain size on the Flash copy using either the IBMVCFG command utility, or the Flash Copy Manager gui. This will assist in alleviating our SVC Bit-map memory problems. Here is a view of the low free bit-map memory on Novi IO group 4. This way we can specify a 256KB grain size Flash Copy and conserve bit-map memory. If you have any questions contact Michael Archambault at 248 305 2031 or IBM rep James Martin at 586 530 1041.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Tivoli
    Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize
