Cloud based quorum

For SVC stretched clusters more flexibility is required. Currently only a expensive fibre channel solution can be used as a quorum system in the 3rd location.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Tivoli
    Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize

We realize that it is a market trend the adoption of distributed datacenters. The SVC stretched cluster solution enables this structure.

However there an alternative to arbitration to avoid the occurrence of split brain, less costly and complex way that the quorum disk on a third site?... Something similar to what EMC does with VPLEX Metro with Witness, where on the third site is installed a VM which takes care of arbitration, and needs only TCP / IP communication, which simplifies the solution, without the need to extend the SAN fabric or a third storage for this third site.

We are very concerned and facing a lot of resistance because of this limitation, preventing the SVC solution stretched cluster in different types and sizes of companies.

When IBM will implement a scheme of "quorum via IP" for SVC Stretched Cluster?

for 2 and 3 sites, IP quorum is already one of the weak points vs VPLEX.
for 3 sites, SVC IP replication exacerbates the need for IP quorum
for 2 sites and considering Storwise Hyperswap adoption, the lack of IP quorum will be one of the strongest inhibitors for SMB clients
