Dynamic LUN Expansion on SVC when part of a Metro Mirror or FlashCopy relationship

We have a requirement to use dynamic LUN expansion on AIX which works well. However if the underlying SVC Volumes are part of a Metro Mirror or Flash Copy relationship, then the relationships have to be stopped and deleted in order to LUN expansion on AIX to take place. This presents an exposure for the business as due to the size of our databases they are without DR for an estimated 3 days whilst Metro Mirror synchronises. In the case of FlashCopy, there will be an exposure based on having to create a new FC which could take 24 - 36 hours to complete (based on the background copy task). Hence the request is to remove the restriction and allow Dynamic LUN expansion to take place with MM & FC relationship active.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Tivoli
    Product family - Storage
Product - IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) / Spectrum Virtualize

To extract a quote from my Clients CTO / Strategy & Planning Director on this need.. "The whole point of dynamic LUN expansion is to make the dynamic ie online ie non disruptive. Extending data areas are the most likely case for LUN extension. Our standing design and operational mandate is to minimise business downtime and to react swiftly to business demands." Hence this is a critical forward capability to enhance IT agility, efficiency and cost effectiveness and should be developed to apply in a Metro Mirror scenario.

This is a significant exposure for an enterprise class product. Not having the ability to extend LUNs in a MM relationship such that only the additional blocks are synchronised to the target questions the use of MM as a viable DR technology since SVC and DWDM bandwidth will dicatate the DR exposure period especially in scenarios where the client's data volumes under MM are ordinarily in excess of 10TB per system with multiple systems per site mutually participating and sharing the available bandwidth.
