DISA STIG - SSH Login Attempts Before Resetting the Interface

IBM is working with the United States Air Force as a Sponsor to have the the FS7200 and FS5030 be added to the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Approved Products List. The approved products list ensures that all findings for a Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) findings have been addressed and the all government agencies and all branches of the DoD can confidently purchase with all CAT1 and CAT2 findings are closed.

All systems/devices that are to be considered for procurement need to go through STIGs and the NSA Guides security audits, these are the configuration standards for DoD IA and IA-enabled devices/systems.

IBM Federal performed a STIG against the FS7200 and FS5030 and found that the number of unsuccessful SSH logon attempts is hard coded to 6 before resetting the interface. DISA STIG, finding V-5613 (CAT 2), states that after 3 SSH logon attempts the interface should be be reset.

To avoid writing an IFIX each time there is an upgrade, IBM Federal request that a CLI command be implemented allowing the client to change the number of logons before the interface is reset.
