IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

Provide the ability to change the system layer from Storage to Replication without requiring a resynch for systems with established partnerships to allow systems to participate in FlashSystem grid.

Currently, in order for a FlashSystem to participate in FlashSystem grid they have to be in the replication layer. Prior to 8.7.0 arrays were shipped in the storage layer by default. My client has 21 FlashSystem arrays and 18 of them are currently in the storage layer and unable to participate in grid. They all have remote partnerships established and hundreds of TB’s of data are currently replicated from production to DR. The client would like the ability to change the systems that are in the storage layer to the replication layer so those systems can participate in FlashSystem grid without having to perform a complete re-sync of data and disrupt their DR posture. The FS9500’s that were shipped with 8.6.0 will be in the environment for at least the next 3 years.

This is possible using the latest version.

You can only remove the partnerships and recreate the partnerships (without a complete re-sync) if it is a recent version of PBR that uses partitions (introduced with 3-site).

If you upgrade to 8.7.3 or 9.1.0, you can convert PBR to use partitions. It will allow you to remove the partnerships, unzone, and change layers, and recreate the partnerships. It will then do an incremental resync.

Existing configurations that use PBR without partitions can be migrated into a storage partition by using the CLI:
