Configuration of NTP must be done using NTP-SHA2 algorithm using symmetric key

RBI has brought a notice to banks in India for below:

Observation details & Manner of Compliance:

    • Observation as per the report
      3.9.15 - 'Stratum' Network Time Protocol (NTP) solution used by the bank for NTP synchronization configured with NTP strings for various deprecated algorithms such as 'SHA', 'MD4' and 'MD5' which was used by the various systems such as AD, TACACS and network security solutions.

  • Manner of Compliance (Bank's first submission on Final report):
    The Bank is in the process of upgrading NTP appliances/ solution that support SHA2 algorithm. This upgrade will be completed by the stipulated time
