This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Hello Phillip - as I already mentioned in the case (see below) I got a fix for that problem.
Assume that you do a large expansion of an existing volume and you forget to change the default Mirror Sync Rat then the expansion may take a very long time. During this time you will not be able to do any other changes with that volume (e.g. Move to another pool, another expansion, ...).
That's the reason why we like to see the background processes.
Is it the case that you want to see the formatting process is taking a long time so you can change the sync rate to speed up the formatting? Can you explain why it is a problem if the formatting process is running for weeks in the background?
Kind regards,
Philip
Hello Philip - Please seen case-id TS018385893.
To see the mirroring and formatting processes is important. If the 'Mirror Sync Rate' of a volume is defined with a too less rate this background process visability is a important hint to have a look at this. Ohterwise the formatting/mirroring-operation would run days or weeks without being noticed.
Bute as I mentioned before I got a fix for that. Please see the case TS018385893
If I understand correctly, mirroring and snapshot operations are still visible, but the formatting status is hidden. This is because in many cases, volumes will always be formatting in the background and there is no impact, you can still write to these volumes immediately.
What is the use case where it is important to see the formatting status?
Thanks,
FlashSystem Team

Hello - a few day ago I got a hotfix to re-enable the visability of the background-processes in the SVC-GUI (8.7.x.x). If interested please contact Ulf Siegel (IBM) to get further information.
