Current IBMi client has 498 volumes running on FS9500. Existing DS8K systems each have over 1,500 volume, preventing them from using more FlashSystems. Minimum # of volumes would need to be 2,048 but more would account for future growth.

Power and Storage technical teams have worked with IBM i customers to test their workloads on FlashSystem and have demonstrated that reducing the number of volumes can improve IBM i performance.
We do still see many environments with over 1000 volumes for a single server, but this is no longer the best practice. Please feel free to reach out to us directly to discuss further.
Thank you for submitting this Idea. We are currently evaluating your request.
