IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Log events when there are high numbers of CRC errors recorded on FC ports, low SFP power.

Large amounts of crc errors or FC ports with low power will impact the ability to serve data to hosts. We had a very obscure issue recently that was caused by a san switch SFP that had low TX power.  Deep in the logs of the storage, there were errors being recorded.  You can access this data in Storage Insights, and there's nothing wrong with that. In my opinion, if there are enough errors being recorded, the cluster should generate an event so that it can be acted upon. If the storage is having issues doing its job, it should generate an event.

Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. While we would like to implement all the Ideas we receive, for maximum transparency we are closing enhancement requests that don’t currently appear on our two-year roadmap.

Storage Insights monitors fabrics as well as storage and might be a natural place to detect these kinds of issues. In addition, the switch management software has more advanced statistics, things like bad link notifications and smart traffic routing, and can offer more insights. However, we may revisit this request in the future.

We appreciate your input and hope that you will continue to submit enhancement requests, as this feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Virtualize and FlashSystem family.

    Thanks,
    FlashSystem Team
