Support a 64K vdisks

I would like to suggest to expansion of the quantity of supported vdisks to 64.000 logical address.

More than one customer here (@ Brazil) bring this kind of specification in their RFPs and/or Public auctions, what reflect in a lot of work to understand if they really have the requirement and do a lot of work to mitigate any possible situation of FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) that our competitors may have create.

I do know that we will support 32K vdisks soon which is great but since we do support 64K in our DS8K, customer sometimes do not see our FlashSystem High-end as a true High-end solution in terms of specs.

Other important aspect, if we are working in a Hyperswap topology, the final number is much more lower.

Please, can you consider this suggestion for a future release?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Philip,

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I'm talking about 64.000 basic volumes (vdisks).

I know that we'll probably support 64K Snapshots in a future release (roadmap, statement of direction and subjected to changes).

    Many thanks.

Thank you for submitting this Idea. We are currently evaluating your request.

Are you looking specifically for 64K host mappable volumes, or 64K total objects which can include both host mappable volumes and snapshots?

    Ex:
V8.5.2.x Configuration Limits and Restrictions for IBM FlashSystem 9500

    Basic volumes (vdisks): 15,864

    Snapshots per system: 19,999

    Thanks,
    SpecV Team
