Event notification capability to mark a hardware/software event as "Acknowledged/Unfixed" to suppress daily ongoing notifications until able to be resolved.

Current Spectrum Virtualize Software behavior: When an event is triggered/logged for a hardware/software failure or pending failure it causes SNMP notification to our in-house Monitoring system that triggers a call out notification to the Team (as a text message and a phone call) requiring the on-call person to respond. While the event remains “Unfixed”, the hardware system will continuously send out daily notifications of “Unfixed” events until marked “Fixed”. Enhancement Request for the Spectrum Virtualize Software behavior: When an event is triggered/logged for a hardware/software failure, it would be requested that there would be an option to select the event and mark it “Acknowledged, but Unfixed”. The expectation is that this would prevent subsequent resends of the same event every 24-hours while it remains “Unfixed”. But offering this capability, it is understood that the Admin is accepting the responsibility to work with IBM Support to identify an Action Plan to resolve the open issue and/or perform the necessary part(s) replacement. The challenge is when the hardware replacement process can take multiple days due to time waiting for a hardware part to actually phase-out/fail, data analysis of support logs by authorized/approved IBM Support resources, hardware part delivery, and actual scheduling of onsite repair action to be performed. The justification/value of this capability would suppress continued notifications/page-outs for a known event that is in-process of being reviewed and resolved. Please note that I understand there may be certain event notifications that may be deemed Critical events and would not qualify for this “Acknowledged, but Unfixed” status response. But there are likely many other “regular” occurring events, especially with drive failures/pending failures that would qualify and be an acceptable option for this requested capability.

We have reviewed this request and believe it is a good candidate for Spectrum Virtualize. I am linking this request to existing Idea SCSI-I-907

If you are interested, please vote and comment on that request.

    Thanks,
