Issue an alert for less physical capacity

This idea is related to SCSI-I-1160.

"Auto stop of Write operation against oops" may be too difficult, so I'll submit another idea.

The customer encountered oops (Out of Physical Space) on FlashSystem 900 AE3 under V7000.

The customer requested us function enhancement of Storwize V7000 G2+ , FlashSystem 900 AE3.

The enhancement is "issuing a warning on creation of an encrypted volume which is larger the remaining physical space in the pool" like below;

a) Check the physical free capacity of FS900 when creating volume

b) If the physical free capacity is under the threshold (10% or 5%, or user difined number), issue warning message such as, "The usage of physical capacity of FS900 pool is over the xx%. Do you want to continue to create volume ?"

c) The user can run the command for the answer. "Yes" means continue, and "No" means cancel

    Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. While we would like to implement all the RFEs / Ideas we receive, for maximum transparency we are closing enhancement requests that don’t currently appear on our two-year roadmap. We may revisit this request in the future.

    If the encrypted mdisk is created on the FS7K using FS900 as backend storage, the backend FS900 will receive a lot of incompressible data and run out of physical space. The recommendation would be to enabled encryption at the FS900 and disabled it at the FS7K. Formatting would write 0's that do not allocate any capacity on the FS900 but actual data would be written and encrypted by the FS900.

    We appreciate your input and hope that you will continue to submit enhancement requests, as this feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Virtualize and FlashSystem family.

    Thanks,
    FlashSystem Team
