IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Allow user to specify output of node name/ID format globally instead of in each command

Request
Support a variable in the cluster configuration via mmchconfig that allows a user to specify if node name output in any command should be done via
1. Explicit shortname even if it includes duplicates
2. Shortest unique name possible
3. FQDN
4. Only specify node ID integer value
Without having to specify it via command arguments in every command they run

Currently between the commands of mmgetstate and mmlsmgr, the commands use different underlying code to determine and output a short version of the host name. Depending on the cluster configuration and names of nodes this may or may not be the same output between commands. Some commands (not not all) support using -fqdn to get a fqdn output for commands but this requires using the -fqdn option in all commands and as all commands don't support it... frustration comes. Also, currently most commands do not offer the option of outputting the node ID instead of a node name. Node ID's are inherently unique short length integers that never change over time for the duration of the existence of any node (and are not re-used).
