Fileset Quota Exceeded — Inconsistent Read Behavior Across Access Paths

Summary: Ensure consistent error handling for quota-exceeded reads across POSIX and HDFS access.

Description:
When a fileset quota is exceeded, read behavior differs depending on the access path:

  • POSIX (GPFS path): Correctly returns "disk quota exceeded"
  • HDFS transparent proxy: Returns empty data with no error

This inconsistency creates a serious risk of silent data corruption or incorrect downstream processing.

Impact:

  • Silent data corruption risk
  • Inconsistent application behavior
  • Hard-to-debug production issues

Ask:
Ensure consistent behavior across all access methods, specifically:

  • HDFS proxy should return the same error as POSIX (disk quota exceeded), OR
  • Provide a clear, explicit error instead of returning empty data
