IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Add Spectrum Scale support for Red Hat's kpatch feature. https://www.redhat.com/en/topics/linux/what-is-linux-kernel-live-patching

Anyone that maintains a Red Hat server running Spectrum Scale could benefit from this capability.
about 1 year ago in Storage Scale (formerly known as GPFS) 2 Planned for future release

To simplify the deployment of workloads in the cloud, IBM must improve the performance of the Scale command "mmaddnode" to allow for faster spin up/down of resources.

Nodes in the cloud need to be spun up quickly as needed. Currently mmaddnode takes too long to add a significant number of nodes as it sequentially adds nodes to the cluster; not only that, but other commands like mmchlicense, mmchnodeclass, and m...

eliminate lack of I/O on mmdelsnapshot start

When deletion of bunch of snapshots starts we a lack of I/O for about three minutes.NFS Clients see a huge delay of I/O. Related applications hanging for this time and user connections and run into timeouts (e.g http connections for apps that stor...

Storage Scale GUI command line does not show when Expiration (Safe Guarded snapshot) is enabled

Client enabled the option "Allow Expiration" at the GUI. At the GUI panel, we see the Expiration column changed from False to True. However when checking in the /usr/lpp/mmfs/gui/cli/lssnaprule command, it does not have the Expiration column, so i...

Prometheus Exporter for zimon metrics

For our compute and Storage systems we are running a monitoring setup based on Prometheus in combination with the Prometheus node exporter and Alert manager. To monitor spectrum Scale health we have some self written scripts collecting metrics. Bu...

ARM Support in Spectrum Scale

The Jülich Supercompting Centre is running HPC compute resources for the European Science community. The storage solution is based of a central Spectrum Scale storage cluster which is mounted on ~8.000 compute nodes using GPFS remote cluster mount...

Storage Scale and Spectrum Archive: If a pre-migrated or migrated file is deleted, provide a limited window to recover it without having to use Storage Protect

Current documentation states that for a space-managed fileset if you use snapshots it triggers a recall of the data from tape to disk. The University of Michigan was always told this is a limitation in Storage Scale not Spectrum Archive and that t...

Increase the maximum number of independent filesets per filesystem

Currently we are hovering under 1000 independent file sets within the user file system. Even taking into account file sets that are removed when users leave site it is very possible that we will hit the limit within a year.

Add support for wide links in protocol nodes/mmsmb

wide links is a parameter supported by SMB exports configuration. But currently it is not possible to specify it when adding a new smb share with the "mmsmb export add" command.

Provide auth and security status of connections via standard mm commands

It would useful to have the auth and security status of connections/mounts via standard supported mm commands (mmdiag|mmlsmount).
