Well, normally you should have a redundant setup so that youi can do rolling updates. If you do not have that I think your setup is not properly sized. We run clusters with thousands of hpc jobs running 24/7. But applying gpfs updates is not that much of a problem.
Nevertheless I like the idea and vote for it.
Security updates must be applied at least monthly and it's close to impossible to reboot machines to do this. We need to use kpatch live kernel updating, however, gpfs isn't compatible with his. Please make this update ASAP. Thank you!
