A potential improvements for tape access from z Cyber Vault. Related to TS7700, RMM and TCDB.

This Idea is regarding z Cyber Vault and tape usage. An improvements for tape access from z Cyber Vault which is a hot topic in many installations these years.

IBM have delivered a solution where we can use tape actively in a z Cyber Vault - safe and secure.
We can read old production tapes and write tapes from the z Cyber Vault without any real conflicts.

Z Cyber Vault is a setup for forensic investigations, Disaster recovery, surgical recovery etc.
Near zero Dataloss is our goal. We start our sysplex based on a Safeguarded Copy Capture(SGC) and to achieve Near Zero Dataloss with certain recovery artifacts on tape(like DB2 archive logs) we ask for a more flexible way to use tape from the z Cyber Vault :-)

More specifically we ask for:

  • A functions that support access to tape that in production is in quarantine via the  TS7700 function named 'hold scratch' .
  • A function where IBM during IPL autodetect the volumes written/updates since last SGC(Last status of RMM/TCDB). To ensure RMM/TCDB is as up to date as possible.
  • A function that ensures that LWORM usage works in the zCybervault even though the TMS could have a LWORM write mount count mismatch.

I support this idea as tape is critical in a cyber attack scenario.
