Enhance "Categories" Panel to Differentiate Between Scratch Volumes and LWORM Retention Volumes in Pending Deletion

Description :

Currently, in the "Categories" panel of the TS7700 (R5.4 & R6.0) related MI interfaces, there is no distinction between volumes that are truly in Scratch status and those that are still under LWORM Retention and only become Scratch after the "Earliest Deletion Date" has passed.

This lack of differentiation can lead to confusion and operational inefficiencies. For example, a volume may appear under "Scratch Volumes" in the 0011 category (our lworm test category), but in reality, it is still in PENDING DELETION state due to Retention constraints and cannot yet be reused. This can mislead users into assuming these volumes are immediately available for new allocations, which is not the case.

Proposed Enhancement:

Introduce a clearer classification in the "Categories" view to distinguish between:

  1. Immediately available Scratch Volumes
  2. Volumes in LWORM RETENTION PENDING DELETION (Retention Period not yet expired) within the next days with maybe a selection of day 1 days 3 days 5 days…

Benefit:

This change would:

  • Improve transparency and operational accuracy
  • Reduce the risk of premature reuse attempts
  • Align displayed information with the actual state of the volumes as governed by HSM/DFSMS retention policies

In R6.1 there will be library request commands that allow you to differentiate scratch category pools versus active logical volumes retention data. This is not planned for the GUI.
