IBM Tape Tools should be properly supported and developed

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

The free IBM Tape Tools aren't sufficiently supported within IBM support structure. Some of the tools are to analyze or report on tape are generic and useful for any type tape hardware while others are specific to IBM TS7700, like GETHIST and CPYHIST. Those specific to TS7700 customers should be packaged with z/OS or delivered and maintained with APARS, rather than downloaded from an FTP site separately. Programs in this collection which have been integrated into customer processes, require timely support yet no support agreement exists. The EXPIRE mechanism to make programs dysfunctional if not refreshed should be changed to warn rather than not execute.

The tape tools for TS7700 are in the process of being re-worked and managed within a contracted Statement of Work with a 3rd party so that the proper focus and attention can be given to them to maximize the customer benefits of the tools. This is an ongoing relationship that should start to show improvements in the tools over the next several months.
