Tape 7700 CUIR Function Enhancement - Vary one device Online for testing purpose while the Cluster in Service Mode

First:

What is it?

Vary one device Online for testing purpose while the Cluster in Service Mode using CUIR Function before bring the Cluster back to Online mode using GUI.

At Now, we bring the Cluster in Service Prep, then finish what need to be done in the cluster (example Memory Card Installation or MCL upgrade), then bring the Cluster to Online mode, then we start testing.

I am suggesting: At the time the cluster in "Service Prep" mode, you need to add the ability to Vary One Device online for testing purpose prior bringing the Cluster "Online" (Vary Devices Online). So we can implement our testing.

 

Second:

Why is it Important? What is it impacting?

You know How important to any Customer the Testing before the Production.

In our company policy, we need to test the Cluster before bring back to Online mode to avoid any downtime, service disruptive and a business impact. This is a must Test need to be taken, therefore this enhancement considered as a very important enhancement need to be implemented as soon as possible.

As now, the Cluster cannot be tested before we bring it to Online Mode.

After, the enhancement, we will be more satisfied and test the cluster before become in Online Mode.

last and not least, without this testing ability this nice CUIR function is not completly satisfying.

    We do not plan to put devices online while in service mode.

    A TS7700 device cannot be brought online for testing purposes until the TS7700 cluster is fully online. To meet your need, you need to turn the varying on to manual process off. Note that you can bring the cluster online and then at the host console, vary on a single tape device for testing and then you can manually vary on the rest of the tape devices. You have control over varying on one device or all devices once the cluster is online. Also note that automated varying on of devices is either all or none.
