Request for SMTP Settings Feature in TS2900 Tape Library

Dear IBM Product Management Team,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am reaching out to request an enhancement for the TS2900 Tape Library related to its SMTP configuration capabilities. Currently, the SMTP settings on the TS2900 do not support user authentication (username and password) or the specification of port numbers. This limitation is impacting our ability to effectively integrate the TS2900 with our existing IT infrastructure.

The ability to configure SMTP settings with authentication and port number options would significantly enhance the functionality and usability of the TS2900. This improvement would enable system administrators to receive timely notifications about system events, thereby streamlining operations and ensuring better integration within our environment.

We have already submitted this idea through the IBM Ideas Portal and would greatly appreciate your support in advancing this request. This enhancement would benefit not only our organization but also other IBM customers who rely on the TS2900 Tape Library.

    IBM has evaluated the request and has determined that it cannot be implemented at this time as it does not align with the current multi-year strategy. However, the two methods below can be used as workaround:

    • Viewing event log in Web-GUI same as SMTP notifications

    • Using SNMP trap same as SMTP notifications

    You may continue to view, comment upon, upvote, and subscribe to ideas marked as not under consideration. IBM will review and may reconsider ideas if new information surfaces or there is additional client interest in an Idea.
