IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

TCP/IP Transmission Statistics

I received a request that TDMF show in performance reporting at a Session, and optionally at a Volume level, the gross amount of data bytes to send to remote sites over TCP/IP and the accumulated number of bytes processed. Including Percent Completion would also be helpful to Clients and Services especially during primary volume copy but may also be useful while in Refresh to discern if select volumes could be processed differently to reduce Network utilization, e.g., Suspend and Continue.

To some extent these computations will be more complex due to the FASTCOPY feature and possibly large data set allocate/delete activity on Source volumes.

An add-on to this request for enhancement would be a measure of Network throughput so time-to-complete estimates can be made and/or to see if competing workloads possibly at certain times throughout the day are causing slowdowns. If known or observed it would enable a customer to relieve a pressure point again an opportunity to use Suspend/Continue facilities. Alternatively, they could opt to reschedule or throttle network requirements in the other components to preference TDMF usage.
